Odds and Gods - Tom Holt
Sunnyvoyde - the home for retired gods - is the jump-off point for this amusing tale of greed and ignorance.
The fact that the majority of the protagonists are hundreds, if not thousands, of years old and not in full possession of all their faculties does not detract from this enjoyable romp through places like the Vatican, the Mexican high desert, Easter Island and a few others I’ve already misplaced.
Tom Holt maintains his reputation (with me, at least) of being a literate writer with a very wry sense of humour, not evoking outright laughter perhaps, but I could feel myself smiling on many occasions while reading this - as I have done with most of his other offerings.
So if you want to mingle with Osiris, Pan, Thor, Frey and Freya and any number of others, a few mortals, as well as the infamous weirdo hunter, Kurt Lundqvist, get hold of a copy and enjoy.
Published (my copy is a hardback) by one of the Book Clubs (BCA) back in 1995. Other editions and paperbacks are available from my favourite bookshops, AbeBooks.co.uk or Alibris.co.uk.
